NAGGING DOUBTS

My fiancée’s constant nagging annoys me so much I might call off our wedding

DEAR DEIDRE: I AM due to get married next year but things are moving too fast and I am not even sure I am attracted to my fiancee any longer.

I am 29 and she is 27. We were very happy for our first six months and I asked her to marry me. Now I regret it.

Her mum has gone overboard, buying her wedding dress and loads of stuff. My fiancee is very excited but I am not in the least bit looking forward to it.

My fiancee has some very annoying habits like nagging me. I have tried to end things more than once but she never takes it seriously.

My children, who are six and four, have become very attached to her. I am worried about letting people down and all the money that has been spent – even though I never asked for any of it.

DEIDRE SAYS: Your fiancee (and her mum) will be disappointed if you cancel the wedding, but an unhappy marriage will cause even more distress long-term and will affect your children too.

It sounds as though this relationship has run its course. My e-leaflet Ending A Relationship will help you find the most tactful words.
